| Notes: In March 2008 Lea was photographed stranding and capturing a pup on the beach for the first time. This documentation confirms her as the eighth orca in the PNOR Photo Identification Catalogue to come ashore intentionally stranding to hunt. In 2004 when PNOR started documenting these orca Lea was a juvenile, and seen in the company of Jazmin (PTN-002). She is now the youngest member of the population to use this method of hunting. Although young calves may accompany their mothers during their hunting forays, it still takes years of practice to become a successful ‘stranding hunter’ and some orca never achieve proficiency. Lea was named in October 2006 by the school children of the Escuela 87 de Puerto Piramides, Peninsula Valdes. Note the small notch at the base of this orca’s dorsal fin.
